Christopher Mathewson, pitcher of the New York National League team, was born in Factoryville, Pa., August 12, 1878. He first attracted attention by his work for the Keystone Academy team of Factoryville. In 1897 he played with the Y. M. C. A. team of Scranton, and the next year he pitched for Bucknell College. He became a professional in 1899, as a member of the Honesdale, Pa., team. In 1900 Mathewson joined the Giants.
Lou found himself in the A's uniform once again last season after an absence of 2 years. In '51 he played in 95 games for Philadelphia and went to Ottawa for more seasoning. Lou has the reputation of being a long-ball hitter and run producer. For Lincoln in '49 he hit 29 Homers and drove in 105 Runs. The next year at St. Paul, he again hit 29 H.R.'s with 111 Runs Batted In.
