A broken leg, suffered while he was making a sensational bid for a regular post, temporarily halted Lou Chiozza's drive with the Giants last year. That leg has fully mended and any day now you may see Chiozza's name back in the Giant lineup. A versatile ball player, Chiozza has played both the infield and outfield for the Giants, enhancing his value as a utility player. He can play either short, second or third, and while not a devastating hitter, is fairly consistent. Before joining the Giants via the trade route in 1937, Chiozza played three seasons with the Phillies.



Leading the NL with 126 RBI's last year, the Philadelphia Phils' outfielder clouted 31 homers and hit .311.



Some Motor City kids already have their Halloween costumes taken care of. A couple weeks after Leyland was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2024, Detroit honored the former skipper with a fitting tribute. The giveaway item on Aug. 3 was a "Jim Leyland Starter Pack" — a baseball cap, sunglasses and a mustache.
