The New York Mets acquired the good-hitting outfielder from the Los Angeles Dodgers for Ron Hunt last winter. Tommy has been recovering from a severely broken ankle which sidelined him in 1965. Last season, Tommy gained some of his form as he led the Dodgers in batting.

At one time one of the most feared hitters in American league. Finished 1948 with .276 mark after very bad start in which he went to bat during a 7-game stretch 26 times without a hit. Originally paid $55,000 bonus to sign with Tigers after great career with University of Michigan. Paced Tigers to pennant in 1940. Fair fielding outfielder.

The 2006 Topps Allen & Ginter card of Willy Taveras runs through stats from his career to date; he has pounded out 172 hits, including 13 two-baggers and 3 homers. In addition, he has also posted a batting average of .290.
