Name that player!

Regarded by many experts as the greatest Hockey Player of all time, Gordie has averaged 69 Points per season in his 8 seasons in the N.H.L. During the past 4 seasons he led the League in Total Points and in 3 of these was the top Goal Scorer. Gordie came up to Detroit in 1946 after 1 year in the Minors. His greatest year was 1952-53 with 49 Goals and 46 Assists for 95 Points.

Built like a fireplug, Forbes was picked by Wings fan club as "unsung hero."

Although Benny doesn't make the headlines, he's rated as one of the most effective defensemen in the National Hockey League. A pro since 1948, when he broke in with Indianapolis, Benny joined Detroit for 2 games at the end of the 1950-51 season, and has been a defensive mainstay since. Not known as a scorer, Benny did have 24 and 30 Points at Indianapolis in 1949-50 and 1950-51. 1951-52 he had 11 Points.

Back to the Front! Red Wings card back du jour...

Doug Barkley
Doug topped all defensemen in soph NHL season last year with 11 goals. Missed winning rookie of year award in 1962-63 by two-tenths of a point, and Red Wing management was so miffed by the vote that Doug was handed $1,000 bonus.
