Maple Leafs Card of the Day

Peter Stemkowski
Coach Punch Imlach feels Peter Stemkowski is one of the real future greats in the N.H.L. "Stemer" is big and strong and a "two-way" hockey player. Played outstanding hockey in the Stanley Cup games.

Name that player!

Starting his 6th straight season as a regular with Leafs, he stood well up in NHL scoring last season and led all his team-mates. A clever and gentlemanly player, he spent only 6 minutes in penalty in 70 games played, which is less than any other NHL player who was in for every encounter.

"Punch" is the only coach without NHL playing experience, also doubles as general manager. He led Leafs to 3 straight Stanley Cup titles. Earlier, he led Quebec Aces in years when Jean Beliveau was star amateur.

Last amateur club: Toronto Marlboros (Jrs.). Completing the tremendous jump from junior to top pro ranks as a Leaf regular this past season, Ron has given a terrific account of himself. He came 4th in Leaf point-getting and stood well up on the NHL scoring list.

Back to the Front! Maple Leafs card back du jour...

Tod Sloan
As good a stickhandler as there is in the NHL, Tod works hard for every point he gets. He was a standout junior, but needed 3 chances to make the big league. Teamed up with Kennedy and Smith in his first season in 1950-51 and formed the league's most-feared forward line. However, he has since shifted to centre, and hasn't been able to find wingmen who can convert his plays.
