Maple Leafs Card of the Day

Gary Aldcorn
Every so often a youngster comes along with a blend of skills that suggest he can't miss making it in the NHL and Aldcom is one of them. Developed in the Maple Leafs system, Gary is a versatile forward who will give coach Howie Meeker playmaking and scoring skills as well as considerable vitality in the dressing room. If his amateur hockey record is any barometer, Aldcom should reach the 20-goal mark before long.

Name that player!

Known as "Slinker" Sloan because of his deceptive style of play, he came to the Leafs in 1950 via Pittsburgh and Cleveland. He has been alternated between Right Wing and Center, being able to play both positions equally well.

Considered one of the best net-minders in the business he came to Leafs from Chicago on a trade for 4 other players. Without missing a single game this past season, he gave solid back-stop support to the Leaf team of youngsters. He tied McNeil in NHL shutouts with 10 to his credit.

Gordie played outstanding hockey last season which was his rookie year in the NHL and was among those considered for the Calder Trophy award. Only team-mates Kennedy and Smith stood ahead of him in Leaf scoring.

Back to the Front! Maple Leafs card back du jour...

Parker MacDonald
Hailing from Nova Scotia, Parker is a crowd-pleasing type of player and showed flashes of potential power during his initial season in the big league. Was an outstanding junior with Marlboros and later sparkled with Pittsburgh, but confesses that the NHL is a tough league and has his hands full in keeping up with the game's top stars. A good skater, he has lots of speed, is also a good stickhandler.
