Ron was injured before the 1963 season began and he underwent surgery. Yet the gallant back returned just in time for the playoff game with the Bills, and he played an important role in the victory. In 1962 Ron was the workhorse of the Patriots' staff. He was used in rushing, pass receiving, returns of kickoffs, punt returns and played on the kickoff team!

Houston got his big chance in 1962 when one of the regulars in the Patriots' defensive line. up was injured. From that time on, "Ol Hous' has developed into one of the league's top defensive tackles. It seems this boy from Memphis is only hap py when he is in the opposing backfield. The feeling around the league is that Houston will be around for a long time to come.

Randy acquired his own award in 2006, as the Randy Moss Award will now be given to the collegian who most excels on kick and punt returns. DeSean Jackson of California was the first winner.
