"Every young player needs to have somebody who can help him," he said. "I'm excited to be that sort of person for (Smith.)"

Jamal Lewis
Some backs had bigger college numbers, but Jamal showed all the tools to be an NFL star. One of the nation's top frosh in 1997, his sophomore season was cut short by a knee injury. The Ravens, however, saw enough of Lewis in '99 to be convinced that he was fully healthy, using the No. 5 overall draft pick to make him the first back chosen. "Jamal is a rarity in that he combines sheer size, power and incredible speed," coach Brian Billick said.
