Name that player!

Despite being double- and triple-teamed by opposing linemen, Reggie had 11 quarterback sacks and 82 "pressures" in 89.

"Chuck" is considered the finest center and linebacker in professional football. He has played five great seasons with the Eagles and has been named All-Pro each one of the five years just as he was named All-America each of his three varsity years at the University of Penn. He just loves jamming the opposition in his line backer position. He calls the Eagles' signals on defense. In 1953 against the Colts, "Chuck" scored his first touchdown in pro football on an intercepted pass.Last season he intercepted 6 passes, quite a feat from his close-up position. He does all the kicking off for the Eagles and stepped in to do the punting when Adrian Burke was hurt last year. Married and the father of two children.

Notice the manner in which Ed Matesic, Philadelphia Eagle half back, has the ball balanced in his hand to throw the forward pass. If the thrower has long fingers the ball may ne grasped, usually with the fingers across the laces and thrown with a little flip of the finger tips to impart a spiral. But short fingered players can become good passers by acquiring the knack of laying the ball in palm and finding its centre of balance. Accurate throwing takes long practice in which two players by passing the ball back and forth, can perfect the knack of easy catching and accurate passing at the same time. Ed Matesic, Philadelphia Eagles, from University of Pittsburgh. Home, Benwood, W. Va. 23 years old, 6 ft. 1 inch tall, 195 pounds.

Back to the Front! Eagles card back du jour...

Ron Heller
It was a banner year for Ron and his linemates as they powered the Eagles to the number-one rushing ranking. The season got off to a bad start for Heller when he lost his starting job at right tackle, but he didn't sit for long, moving in at left tackle after the second game to replace injured starter Matt Darwin. In the Eagles 31-13 win over the Giants, Ron limited Lawrence Taylor to two tackles and no sacks.
