Packers Card of the Day

Jared Abbrederis
Overlooked by colleges despite a decorated career as a quarterback and defensive back at Wautoma High, Jared walked on at Wisconsin and auditioned at a variety of positions his first season. He became a full-time starter at flanker by his sophomore year, earning a scholarship after that season. In 2013, Abbrederis set a school record with 78 catches and became the fourth 1,000-yard receiver in Badgers annals.

Name that player!

Third year in pro football. All-American selection at U. of Kentucky in 1951. Led Southeastern conference in passing in 1949, 1950, and 1951. One of the greatest ball handlers in the League. With Parilli and Tobin Rote passing, the Packers won the 1952 League passing championship. "Babe" is also a great runner, especially on the quarterback option play. His punting has been a valuable asset to the Packers.

When he's not intercepting passes, Alexander is creating opportunities for others to do so. In the fourth quarter of a close game vs. the Rams, the defensive back tipped a pass that was picked off by teammate Anthony Johnson. The play helped the Packers secure a 20-3 victory in Week 9 of 2023.

After being the Packers' first pick for '61, Herb gained his 4th straight All-Pro selection in '66. He added 4 interceptions and 125 yards returned to his 25 previous steals scoring his 5th TD. He also returns kickoffs.

"Ernie" Smith
Ernie Smith is a former Southern California tackle on the 1932 Intercolligate football champions, an All-American player and great point kicker. In his last college season he kicked 18 goals after touchdown, and was the spearhead through which most of the Trojan yardage was gained. Almost 6 feet three inches in height and weighing 220, he blocked no less than eleven punts during the season. He is one of the few college players who, after a three year absence from the game, has turned to professional play with the Green Bay Packers.
