The Timberwolves won more games in their first season (22) than any of the other late 1980s expansion teams, and with a group of young players led by Christian Laettner, the team is on the rise. The Timberwolves have a hard act to follow, however; the last NBA team in Minnesota, the Lakers, won five NBA Championships before moving to L.A. in 1960. DID YOU KNOW? Only two players - Brad Sellers and Doug West - are left from the Timberwolves' inaugural season. Sidney Lowe, who took over as coach of the Timberwolves midway through 1992-93, was a starting guard in the franchise's first game and recorded the first assist in Timberwolves history. SCORECARD. On April 17, 1990, the third-largest crowd in NBA history packed the Metrodome, giving the Timberwolves an attendance total of 1,072,572, the highest single-season total ever.

Selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 1989 Expansion Draft... Began his professional career with the Bullets and was the back-up center behind Hall-of-Famer Wes Unseld... Was a three-time NAIA all-American... Earned college degree in Business.



Laettner, one of the most celebrated players in NCAA history quickly translated that success to the NBA. He ranked among the top five rookies in PPG, AST and REB, while tossing in a team BLK leadership for good measure.
