Fred's coach at Grambling, Fred Hobdy, has also produced top flight pros Willis Reed and Jimmy Jones, yet Coach Hobdy feels that Fred is the best defensive player he has coached. Fred was prep All-American at McKinley High in Baton Rouge where he teamed with Celtics' Don Chaney.
The Lakers' second round draft choice in 1969, Dick enjoyed a brilliant rookie season in the NBA. He was named to the All-Rookie team and started in the Los Angeles backcourt with Jerry West. A college teammate of the Knicks' Walt Frazier, he played with the 1967 Southern Illinois team that won the NIT championship. He's a great offensive threat whether shooting or setting up a teammate.
Bob was voted as the NBA's Rookie of the Year for 1972-73 and was the only unanimous choice on the league's All Rookie Team. He had a fast finish, scoring 39, 39 & 45 Points his final three games of the season. When he first joined the Braves, Bob was a standstill jump shooter throwing it up from 20 or 25 feet. During the campaign he became better without the ball, freeing himself for open shots and going to basket more.
