Wire to wire, Shaq was the NBA's dominant force in '99-00. Playing more minutes than ever ("I don't get tired. I'm not programmed for it," he says), he not only hung up one the league's best set of numbers ever, but worked the other end so well he was a legitimate contender for Defensive Player of the Year honors. O'Neal even ranked second among centers in APG (3.8).
A consistent, rugged, battering-type performer, the Ivy League grad is regarded as one of the most underrated cornermen in the league. He was second to Elgin Baylor on the team in rebounding last season, second in free throw percentage at .790 and third in scoring. A solid athlete, he played with a broken bone in his wrist for six weeks in his freshman season in 1959-60. His hobbies include water color and oil painting, and writing.
Jamaal had a game-high of 34 Points in 1980-81 and was credited with 235 Assists and 121 Steals for the Lakers.
