Name that player!

Matt is a fighting ball player, and a capable receiver. He was in 116 games for the Tigers in 1953, batting .278. His 104 hits were good for a total of 152 bases, and included 24 doubles, 3 triples and 6 homers. He drove in 42 runs and scored 38. Began in baseball in 1942 with Canton, playing first, the outfield and catching. Entered service for three seasons. Came to majors at end of 1947 season with Red Sox. Went to Browns in February, 1952.

When "Jerry" took part in 150 Double Plays in 1950, he set a new Major League Record for 2nd Basemen. Outside of 2 years in Service, he's been in the Big Leagues since '41, playing with the Yankees, Senators, Browns and Tigers. A top-notch fielder, he led American League 2nd basemen in Putouts in 1947-48-49-51 and in Assists in 1948-50-51. He had his best seasons at the plate in '48 and '49, hitting .296 and .290.

Holder of every key strikeout record at Old Dominion University, Justin - the second overall pick of the 2004 draft - has been even more unhittable as a pro. He debuted in '05 with a 1.29 ERA over 20 starts that led all Minor League pitchers by a cavemous margin of 0.73. After earning a spot in the Futures Game, he soon received a summons to Detroit, where he started twice in July.

Tarik Skubal
Tarik has quickly emerged as one of the best pitchers in the American League. In a 32-start span from 2023 to 2024, basically equivalent to a full season, Tarik was 16-6 with a 2.60 ERA and a 31% strikeout rate, which is about eight points better than average. His walk rate in the period was 4.7%, little more than half the League average.
