Paul LaPalme
Paul spent 7 years in the minors and 3 years in Military Service, before he got his first Big League trial with the Pirates in 1951. His best minor league years were 1946 at Bristol (20 wins and 181 Strikeouts) and 1949 at Hartford (14 wins and 162 Strikeouts). His 2.47 Earned Run Average at New Orleans in '50 earned Paul his trial. In '51 he had a 1-1 mark at Indianapolis and 2-2 at New Orleans.

When Laurin graduated from Mississippi Southem College, he had to make a choice. Both the Pittsburgh Steelers Football team and the Pirates wanted his services, and he chose baseball. As a college Football Star, he averaged 8.2 yards per carry and was nominated to many All American teams. Last season, Laurin appeared in a few games and gained experience.



"Ranks with the leading catchers of the National League and is also a dependable hitter. Last year batted .289 in 93 games. Grace was secured by the Pirates in a trade with the Chicago Cubs in 1931. The pre- vious year. playing with Reading in the International League. he slugged. 324 in 137 games, playing both in the outfield and behind the bat. He bats left-handed, although he throws right-handed. He is a 6-footer, weighs 175 pounds, and was born in Little Rock, Ark., in 1907."



Winner of the Gold Glove award eight times, Bill is considered the best fielding second baseman in the majors.

Sid Gordon
Acquired from Milwaukee last winter. Broke in with Giants in 1941 and remained with them until traded to Braves before 1950 season. Great thrower, hustler and power hitter. Has 183 major league homers including a stretch of 25 or over in five straight seasons. Hit two homers in one inning in 1949. Tied record in 1950 with four grand slam homers.
