Esteury was the first American League player with 50 steals, in his 104th game.



Rollie was credited with a Save in the 2nd game of the 1972 World Series vs. Reds. He entered the game with 2 out in the ninth inning and a runner on first base. He retired the batter on a pop-up to preserve the 2-1 victory for Jim Hunter.



Ed, who served the Athletics as a coach last season, takes over the managerial reins of the club in 1963. A former pitching ace, the lefty won 166 ballgames during his big league career. In 1937, Ed began his professional career at first base. Switching to the mound, the hurler was brought up to the Chicago White Sox in 1944. Ed was traded to the New York Yankees in 1948 and he immediately became one of their stars. In '51, Ed won two World Series games, allowing only 1 earned run in 18 innings. During the 1951 season, the southpaw won 21 ballgames and pitched in the All-Star game. In 1956, Ed managed the Richmond Virginians in the International League. In '60 & '61, the former hill whiz was the pitching coach for the New York Yankees and the Minnesota Twins.

In 64 games for the A's in 1950. Batted .266. Drove in 20 runs. Began pro career in 1941. After serving in the armed forces, cut a wide swath in the Eastern League in 1947. Playing for Wilkes-Barre, hit .375 to capture circuit's batting crown. Was also League's top defensive catcher. Hit majors in 1948 with the Indians. After spending 1949 with the White Sox, was sent to the A's for 1950.
