Name that player!

John was traded to Philadelphia just prior to the opening of the 1960 campaign. He became one of the workhorses of the Phillies' staff.

Set a modern major league mark for pitchers in 1950 by appearing in 74 games. Set another mark by finishing 62. Won 16 and lost 7. Saved many games for the young Philadelphia pitching staff not shown in own record. Earned run average, 2.66. Voted the National League's most valuable player. In 3 World's Series games. Drew a starting assignment in one. Dropped heartbreaker.

Gary wasn't expected to see any action with Philadelphia last year, but his pea-shooting fastball earned him a spot on the roster. Called up early in the 1965 campaign, Gary was a Rookie sensation. He was called upon second only to veteran bullpen ace Jack Baldschun. With a year of experience under his belt, Gary looks like he is in the majors to stay. Mgr. Mauch has only the highest of praise for his young righthander.
