During his long career in the 'National League, Bob has been one of the best sluggers around. He had another good season in 1950, hitting .305 for 142 games. Slammed 28 doubles, 24 homers. Drove in 107 runs. Originally an outfielder, but while being managed by Frank Frisch at Pittsburgh was made into a third baseman. Traded to the Braves for 1947. Batted .317 that year.
My Biggest Thrill In Baseball: My biggest thrill in baseball was hitting a grand slam home run when I was a member of the Chicago Cubs in 1945. My mother came to see me play for the first time. We were playing the Pittsburgh Pirates and Preacher Roe was pitching for them. The first time I came up to bat I struck out with the bases loaded. The second time, they were loaded again. But this time I hit a home run. This was the last time my mother saw me play, because two years later she passed away.
