Randy served as backup guard and tackle in his first season with the 49ers but took over as a starting guard in 1970. Very strong with good quickness and speed, he was a defensive tackle for three seasons at Philadelphia after having been the Eagles first round draft selection in 1966. Randy was dealt to the 49ers in trade involving quarterback George Mira, 9-8-69. He attracted AllAmerica attention as defensive end in college.
