Intercepted 12 passes in NFL rookie year (1950) to tie for second place in that department. Attended Los Angeles City College in 1946 and 1947, then transferred to Oregon. Played halfback. Had great year in 1949. Intercepted 8 passes, returned them 127 yards. Returned 3 kickoffs for touchdowns. Led Oregon in rushing. Has all that it takes to make a top-notch defensive halfback.



"The Jet" won unanimous All-Pro ranking last year as he became only the fourth man in pro history to gain 1,000 yards or more in a single season. He was the number one man in the League last year in TD's scored by rushing. A surprise package from little Compton, Calif., Junior College, Joe was signed by the 49ers as a free agent in 1948 and became an immediate sensation. During his Navy service, he finished just a yard behind famed Mel Patton in a 9.5 100-yard dash at the Fresno Relays.



The Lions gave up Milt Plum, Pat Studstill and Tom Watkins to acquire this quarterback. The ex-Ram completed 27 passes in a 1965 game, the top mark by an L.A. quarterback in 14 years. Bill is strong-armed and accurate.
