One of the many fine pro performers to come out of South Bend, Bob is one of the best flankerbacks in the league. He has excellent speed and good hands, a prerequisite to becoming a great receiver. Third on the team in pass receptions last year, Bob is one of Jacky Lee's favorite targets.



In 1950 gained 571 yards on 146 carries. Averaged 3.9 yards per attempt. Scored 2 touchdowns. Averaged 33.5 yards per punt on 6 kicks. Averaged 47.2 yards per punt on 29 kicks in 1949. Attended Ellisville Junior College in Mississippi, but never played collegiate football. Trained in the Bears' farm system. Was an All-State high school ace in home town of Mishawaka, Indiana.



Call a "go" route and watch Burks go fetch the football like a frisbee. The speedy playmaker built a reputation for blowing the top off secondaries and sprinting under deep passes. As a sophomore in 2020, the fleet-footed receiver finished ninth in the FBS in receptions of at least 40 yards (five).
