Jerry, one of the best defensive backfield men in pro football, is in his fifth year with the Steelers. He came to the team from UCLA where he played football and made a new record for shotput. He is known as a dependable fullback who can get three or four yards per carry. In 1951, when Pittsburgh led the league with 30 interceptions, Jerry accounted for 6 of them, one a beautiful 58-yard return.
Gore's career arc made a mockery of the notion that running backs decline early. He simply got better as time wore on. Playing with the Dolphins in 2018, the five-time Pro Bowl pick averaged 4.6 yards per carry - at age 35. The nine-time 1,000-yard rusher compiled 722 yards over 14 games that season.
Willie was one of Denver's top rookies in 1963. His speed, aggressiveness, and mobility earned him a starting role for the Broncos. A real rock'em, sock'em kind of player, Willie is a coach's dream. Great things are anticipated for this hard-hitting back this year. He led the Broncos in pass interception in 1964.
