The nation's outstanding college player in 1947 and 1948. Named to every All-American in those years. Played for University of Pennsylvania. Did all of Penn's punting. Sought by every pro club in America. Eagles' bonus selection. Though weighing 230 pounds, Chuck is fast and dexterous. On joining the Eagles played both offense and defense. His keenness in intercepting passes at Penn in 1946 and 1947 made opposing teams afraid to throw in his territory. In 1948, against Columbia, scored only touchdown in college career. Chuck promptly kissed the football and threw it into the stands. Never known to make a poor pass.
This is Steve's 22nd coaching season with the Giants, and his 27th year with the club. He played tackle and captained the team before becoming coach. One of the game's keenest planners. Has a great defensive repu- tation; yet his most recent teams have been shattering the team's offensive records. During his boyhood Steve punched cattle and rode horses in neighborhood races. In his career he has been jockey and wrestler. He has worked in the oilfields and in the coal business. He had his first experience in football in 1918 after he entered the Student Army Training Corps at Phillips University.
