One of pro basketball's acknowledged superstars, David's statistics speak for themselves. He became only the 2nd player in NBA history to score more than 72 points in a game when he tallied 73 points in the 1977-78 season's finale at Detroit. David was ABA's and pro basketball's Rookie of the Year, 1975-76.
The game's ultimate POWER forward, Malone, a five-time NBA All-Star, finished second in the NBA with a 28.0 PPG scoring average and ninth by ripping down 11.2 rebounds per contest. "The Mailman" was selected to his fourth straight All-NBA squad and to the 1992 U.S. Olympic Team.
Appointed interim head coach on 2/18/89 after six seasons as an assistant coach with the Trail Blazers... Led Portland into playoffs for seventh consecutive season... Given the permanent coaching position following the season... Played college basketball at Loyola before being drafted by the Rockets in 1968... Selected by Portland in the 1970 Expansion Draft and was the team's first captain... Also played for the Bulls, Jazz and Kings in a seven-year NBA career... Served as head coach at Chemketa Community College in Oregon for six seasons before re-joining the Trail Blazers in 1983.
