The former Olympian was voted Player of the Year and All-Star center for the 1960-61 season in a poll of the NBA players themselves. Although ranking only 18th in the league among the top scorers, big Bill has been most responsible for making the Celtics the great club it is. His two greatest assets are tremendous rebounding ability and uncanny defensive tactics. He has been a member of the Celtics five years.
The MAAC and Philadelphia Big-5 Player of the Year, Woods is a prime-time gunner who averaged a MAAC-leading 27.3 PPG as a senior to go with 6.3 rebounds and 5.2 assists per outing, He also led the conference in steals (2.4 SPG) while finishing second in assists and fourth in free-throw percentage (.813). With good range, toughness and quick hands, the Clippers foresee Woods as an NBA caliber point guard.
In Kenyon, the NBA is watching a young player develop into a big star right before its eyes. His Nets' astonishing improvement due in no small part to his own, Martin's numbers were way up over his rookie season. Now a solid 15- to 18-point scorer and prolific shot blocker, he also has added a three-pointer to his repertoire and has become known as one of the most physical defenders in the league. Kenyon is happy to do that kind of "dirty work," and doesn't consider himself a gaudily athletic player. "I have game hops," he says. "I jump when I have to."
