A last-minute replacement for injured SuperSonics star Shawn Kemp, Tim Perry doubled Philadelphia's chances of winning the 1993 NBA Slam-Dunk Championship by joining teammate Clarence Weatherspoon in the event. A fifth-place finisher in 1989, Perry had experience on his side as he was the second-oldest competitor at 27 years old and was one of three players who had been in the dunk contest before. Experience couldn't help him when he missed his second slam, however, and he missed the final round.
A native of Philadelphia where he played high school ball against Wilt Chamberlain, Ray scored close to 11.000 points in 9 seasons in the NBA. One of the better playmaking big men in pro basketball, he was Pistons' team captain.
