MAGICAL ! - January 30, 1996 - In his first professional game since the 1991 NBA Finals, Earvin Johnson confirmed what many long suspected: that he's not merely "Magic," he's supernatural. Playing several positions in a 27-minute debut against Golden State, Johnson missed a triple double by just two rebounds, scoring 19 points and adding to assists to his eight boards. "This is one of the most exciting days of my life," he told reporters. "Ever."
The fifth-best rebounder in the NBA in 1994-95, Hill snared 10.9 boards per game. He also finished second on the team in scoring (an NBA career best 13.8 ppg) and played in his first NBA All-Star Game.
A solid performer now in his fifth year in the NBA, Rod is recognized as one of the standout guards in the league. Known as "Mr. Available" because of his record of never having been disqualified from an NBA game. Led his team in assists with 450 last season, and was the fourth highest scorer. He came to the Lakers in 1957 and last year was reunited with Fred Schaus, his old West Virginia coach.
