When Willie scored 21 points in 24 minutes in his first game as a knick, New Yorkers knew they had a new star. Before coming to Gotham, he played on the St. Louis Hawks and compiled a good 10.3 average. At college, Willie shattered U.C.L.A. marks with a red hot 23.6 per game average.
An excellent shooter, Tom is an intelligent player and one of the best passers among the Knicks' big men. A 3-time All-American at Maryland, he holds the school's alltime scoring record of 1807 points in 3 varsity seasons. Tom was voted MVP of the 1972 NIT as Terps won the championship.
The Hawks' star is regarded as the most proficient of all big men in every phase of the game. A tremendous team player, Bob can hit from the outside with a jump shot, drive for the basket with authority, set up his teammates with split second passes and clamp down on defense. With Bob setting the pace, St. Louis won its fifth straight Western Division championship last season. In seven years in the NBA, he has never fallen below a 20-point scoring average for any season. Here he's shown going up for a shot after evading Paul Arizin of the Warriors.
