Larry Bird has always been considered one of the most talented players in the NBA. But, during the 1990/91 season, Bird showed just as much determination as talent. Bird missed 22 games during the season because of a painful back injury. Frequently, when he did play, Bird had to lie on the floor when he was out of the game to keep his back loose.
The former two-time West Virginia All-American has been called the "biggest six-foot, three-inch player you'll ever see," by opponents who have tried to stop him. A top-flight scorer, who averaged 28 points a game in college, and just under 18 points a game in his freshman season in the NBA last year, Jerry also is a defensive stalwart and an outstanding rebounder. His sharp reflexes, quick hands, long arms and springy legs make up for the inches he lacks.
Selected 11th overall in 2018, Gilgeous-Alexander is one of three players in his draft class - along with Luka Doncic and Trae Young-to have amassed more than 3,000 points and 700 assists the past three seasons. Tabbing him as a player they can build their fortunes around, the Thunder put the ball in his hands and let him go to work.
