The Dallas Chaparrals, a charter member of the ABA, originated in 1967. In conjunction with a move to San Antonio in 1973, the team name was changed to the Spurs. The Spurs joined the NBA after the 1975-76 season and won five division titles in the next seven seasons. Now led by David Robinson, the Spurs have won two more division titles (1989-90 and 1990-91). DID YOU KNOW? The Spurs scored more than 100 points in 129 consecutive games from December 12, 1978, to March 14, 1980, the second-longest streak ever. Despite going into overtime with the Rockets on April 13, 1984, the Spurs committed only seven fouls, the lowest ever in a regular-season NBA game. SCORECARD. With 53-of-75 shooting from the floor on April 16, 1963, against the Mavericks, the Spurs set the NBA record for highest field goal percentage in a game (.707).
Fittingly, it was Larry Bird who hit the first-ever three-point shot in the NBA All-Star Game, back in 1980.
