The Dallas Chaparrals, a charter member of the ABA, originated in 1967. In conjunction with a move to San Antonio in 1973, the team name was changed to the Spurs. The Spurs joined the NBA after the 1975-76 season and won five division titles in the next seven seasons. Now led by David Robinson, the Spurs have won two more division titles (1989-90 and 1990-91). DID YOU KNOW? The Spurs scored more than 100 points in 129 consecutive games from December 12, 1978, to March 14, 1980, the second-longest streak ever. Despite going into overtime with the Rockets on April 13, 1984, the Spurs committed only seven fouls, the lowest ever in a regular-season NBA game. SCORECARD. With 53-of-75 shooting from the floor on April 16, 1963, against the Mavericks, the Spurs set the NBA record for highest field goal percentage in a game (.707).

Fittingly, it was Larry Bird who hit the first-ever three-point shot in the NBA All-Star Game, back in 1980. A dozen years later he was selected to his 12th NBA All-Star Team (his 10th as a starter) but, for the second straight season, was unable to play because of an injury. He was MVP of the NBA All-Star Game in 1982, and only Isiah Thomas has more steals than Bird (23) in All-Star competition.

Bill was Knicks' leading scorer and rebounder in 1980-81. He sets the offensive tempo for the club, had a 22-Point debut against the Hawks as a rookie in 1979. Bill led nation in rebounding as a senior at San Francisco.
