George W. Perring, shortstop of the Kansas City Federal League Club, was born at Sharon, Wis., on August 13, 1884. He entered Beloit, Wis., College, and left there in 1905 to join the Beloit Club of the Wisconsin State League. Beloit sold Perring to Omaha, of the Western League, at the end of 1905, and he played with Ömaha in 1906. Omaha sold him to Cleveland American League Club in 1906, but that club farmed him to Toledo American Association team in the early part of 1907. He was recalled in 1908, and remained with Cleveland until the latter part of 1910, when he was purchased by Columbus American Association team. He played in Columbus until the spring of 1914, when he jumped to the Kansas City Federals.

The "Redhead's" first year in Organized Baseball was in 1942. He divided the season between Union City in the Kitty League and Albany in the Georgia-Florida League. He also played for Lynchburg and Rochester before he joined Cards in 1945. In the meantime, he had eight months' Army service. Although an infielder, when Cards needed outfield help in 1945, he moved to outer pastures and did a top-notch job. He returned to infield for 1946 season - led National League second basemen in fielding with .983 average.
