Daryl began the 1953 season with the Giants as a rookie hopeful. However, he suffered a severe injury when he was hit in the cheek with a batted ball. His cheekbone was broken and he was out of action for a while. However, when he returned he was not at all "gunshy" as some feared. He's big, young, fast, has a good arm and hits the long ball. Carl Hubbell scouted him for the Giants.
The 1916 Sporting News M101-4 set features stars such as Eddie Collins (#24), Charles Comiskey (#36), Ty Cobb (#38), Sam Crawford (#41), Joe Jackson (#87), Hugh Jennings (#90), Walter Johnson (#91), Babe Ruth (#151), Joe Tinker (#174) and Honus Wagner (#182).
Hit .273 in 115 games for the 1950 A's. Drove in 54 runs. Began in baseball with Kansas City in 1939. Remained with the Blues until hitting the majors with Detroit in 1942. Spent next 3 years in military service. In May, 1946, switched from the Tigers to Washington. Sold to the Browns in the winter of 1947. Traded to the Red Sox the following November. Traded to the Athletics 1950.
