Answer to Trivia Question

Two out and a man on first. The batter hit a line drive and reached third. The runner originally on first failed to touch second on his way home. The second baseman called for the ball and tagged second. Did the run score?

The youthful A's are regarded as one of the strong clubs in the American League's Western Division in 1969. Strong young pitching and several potent hitters have given Oakland a dangerous ballclub. Sal Bando, the 25 year old third baseman, showed marked improvement in 1968. He batted .192 as a rookie in '67, but his average jumped up 59 points last season. Speed-demon Bert Campaneris' 62 stolen bases last season earned him his 4th consecutive league title. The shortstop led the A's with 177 basehits, 87 runs scored and nine triples. Danny Cater, the top hitter on Oakland last season, finished second in the American League's batting race with his .290 mark.

Used in relief by Brewers until last September, Jerry won his first 3 starting assignments, two over Cleveland & one over New York. He then pitched a long relief outing to pick up a victory vs. Red Sox at Fenway Park in the heat of "pennant fever". He has good control & spots pitches.
