"Pete" began his professional baseball career with the Wheeling Club in 1930. He entered the majors in 1933 with the Detroit Tigers with which team. he is now playing.

Christy Mathewson is one of baseball's most beloved memories. Disputes will never cease raging as to who was the greatest pitcher - Matty or Walter Johnson - but their respective records speak pretty much for themselves. Both were great. Matty pitched for the New York Giants from 1900 until mid-season of 1916, when he took over the managership of the Cincinnati Reds. Matty won 373 games and lost only 188 in his long career, winning 20 or more games for thirteen seasons, and thirty or more four times, three of them in succession - 1903, 1904 and 1905. He is tied for the league record for most victories in a lifetime with Grover Alexander. He pitched two no hit games and won thirteen in a row in 1909. His thirty-seven wins in 1908 is still a modern record for a season.
