No. The rule states that the pitcher must pitch until the first batter has been retired or gotten to first base, barring a serious injury.

Stu is one of three major league pitchers named Miller. Also member of the Young Cardinal movement. They've got some excellent pitching prospects, and Stu is one of the best. He appeared in 40 games for the Cards in 1953, his first full season in the majors, and he won 7 and lost 8. He began the preceding season with the Cards' American Association farm at Columbus, winning 11 and losing 5. He appeared in 12 games for St. Louis and had a 6-3 record.



Joseph Wood, pitcher of the Boston American League team, is 23 years old. He played with the Hutchinson, Kansas, team in 1907, with the Kansas City team in 1908, and was bought from the latter organization by Boston. He was a factor in winning the World Series from the New York Giants in 1912.



"The Chief" is probably the calmest and surest pitcher in baseball. He's got a tremendous competitive spirit and will start one day and relieve the next, if he's needed. He's part Creek Indian, and was voted the Indian of the Year and received his award at ceremonies at Andarko, Oklahoma. Allie contributed two no-hitters to the records in 1951. In 1952 he won 20 games for the first time in his career.
