"Here's one of the trickiest ball players in both Leagues. For three years running now, Ben Chapman has led the American League in base stealing. Last year he ran up a record of 27 stolen bases out of 176 tries; not quite so good as 1932 when he made 38 out of 174, but still enough to put him on top. William Ben Chapman, to give him his full name, was born in Nashville, Tenn., on Christmas day, 1908. He started professional baseball in 1928. After playing around the infield for four seasons he finally settled in outfield where he now plays. He began regular playing with the Yankees in 1930. He is almost six feet tall and weighs around 175 pounds."

MY ADVICE TO YOUNGSTERS by Vic Wertz. If you are trying to make baseball a career, you must work hard at several things. First, work very hard to improve yourself as a ball player, and at the same time, don't forget that it's important to be a good sport. You can be a great ball player, and if you are a good sport with it, you can look back on your career with pride, knowing that you were an inspiration for some other youngster coming up just the way you did. It's how you trained yourself that counts.
