"Sam" Chapman, attained nation-wide fame as an All-American football hero at the Univer- sity of California before turning to professional baseball for a career. He graduated in 1938, and immediately joined the Athletics for whom he has played regularly ever since. A fast man, Chapman has indicated that he will go a long way in the majors. He is a hard. long hitter, and although his batting averages in his first two seasons were not high, he drove in sixty-three and sixty-four runs, respectively. He hit 17 home runs in 1938, and 15 last year. Against St. Louis on May 5th last year, he hit a homer, triple, double and single in five attempts, and poled out two home runs the following day.



Evan needed fewer than 250 games on the farms in racing from high school ranks all the way to The Show, putting up gaudy numbers every step of the way. The 2022 Rangers Minor League Player of the Year earned a call-up the following September - and kept on raking. Carter went 16-for-53 (.302, 1.085 OPS) over his first 20 MLB tilts.



You can't keep a good man down. Billy Rogell, Detroit shortstop, had trials with the Red Sox but was released. He went to the minors and played so well that Detroit nabbed him. Last year batted .271 in 143 games and fielded .944. Is 28 years old, five feet, 1034 inches tall and weighs around 165 pounds. Bats either right or left-handed. The Red Sox bought him in 1924 from the Salina, Kans., team of the Southwestern League.
