Once struck out 26 batters in a nine-inning game, while pitching in schoolboy ranks at Mercersburg Academy. It was a no-hit game. Also starred in football, track and hockey in prep school, then twirled for Brown freshmen. Signed by Washington in 1926, sent to Birmingham, but recalled. Traded to Chicago White Sox in 1931 and went to Browns in deal in April, 1932. Is five feet, 1011⁄2 inches tall and scales 180 pounds. Bats and throws right-handed. Last year won 14 games and lost 21. Was born in Lynn, Mass., in 1904.
