Name that player!

Sandy began the 1953 season with the Washington Senators and after appearing in 4 games for them he was traded to the Chicago White Sox. He was in a total of 33 games during the year, winning 7 and losing 5. He was used primarily in relief, although he did start 13 times. His earned run average was a low 2.86. Began in baseball in his native Cuba. He also pitched for Havana of the Florida-International League. First came to the majors in mid-1950.

An outstanding rookie in 1953, Jim did not fall heir to the sophomore jinx as so many ball players do. He upped his batting average from .278 in 1953 to .282 in 1954. Last year he had 28 doubles, 8 triples and 13 homers among his 171 base hits. He batted in 52 runs. Jim is a snappy man around second base. His first experience in organized baseball was in 1951 with the Brooklyn Dodgers' Montreal farm team. He spent 1952 with Montreal, then came to the majors.

THE BEST HITTER I'VE EVER SEEN by Fred Baczewski. There are a lot of good hitters in the game today, but I've got to go along with Stan Musial. He hits everything a pitcher could possibly throw up there. He's so interesting to watch, you even stop what you are doing to watch him take batting practice. And, besides, he is one of the swellest fellows in baseball. He's the greatest!
