In his sophomore year with the Red Sox in 1966, Jim worked in 45 ballgames and topped the Boston staff with 131 strikeouts. The 24-year-old righthander has shown steady improvement in his first two big league seasons and the front office believes Jim could be the club's next twenty-game winner. When his pitches are low, he's one of the game's toughest men to hit. Jim only appeared in 31 contests in the minors!
Cal was one of the big surprises of the 1962 season, winning 10 games for the Cubs as a rookie... his second season in professional ball. Last year Cal appeared to have regained his old form as he posted the lowest earned run average on the Chicago staff.
1952 was Howie's first season with the Phils, after some years as a member of the Cincinnati Reds. The preceding year with the Reds, Howie went to the mound 40 times, won 9 while losing 14 and had an earned run average of 3.83, as opposed to 5.08 in 1952. Began in baseball in 1943. The following season with Birmingham of the Southern Association he won 19, tying for the league lead.
