"Bob" began his professional baseball career with the Cleveland Club in 1936. He entered the majors in 1936 with the Cleveland Indians with which team he is now playing.

There is a telling statistic about Albert in 2005 that revealed his uniqueness as a power hitter: Beginning in mid-Spring Training and extending through the first two weeks of the regular season, he went 108 straight plate appearances without striking out. In '04, Pujols's 52 whifts were the 10th-fewest ever by a player with more than 45 home runs.

Elmer, who is starting his 13th season with the Athletics, was hampered by injuries in '53 and his Batting Average fell below .280 for the first time in 8 years. After coming out of Service, he batted .307 in '46, .300 in '47, .305 in '48 and .302 in '51. He came up to the A's after leading the Interstate League in Batting with .364 at Wilmington in '40.
