Although he is one of the foremost pitchers in the National League, Lonnie Warneke was a first baseman when he was in high school. He was born at Mt. Ida, Ark., in 1909. He is 6 feet 11 inches tall and weighs 180 pounds, batting and throwing right-handed. Last year he led the National League in effectiveness and won more games than any other pitcher in the League. Won 22 games for the Cubs and was beaten only 6 times. He has another brother now playing in minor league ball.
