Van Every opened eyes with the Akron Aeros in 2007 when he batted .344 in 44 games for the Double-A club. Signed as a free agent with Boston in the offseason, he singled in his Major League debut on 5/14/08.
He is already being called another "Babe Ruth." His amazing clouting drove out 51 home runs last year, to tie Johnny Mize. In 1946, he also led the National League in home runs. Second player since 1900 to do this as a rookie. He joined the Pirates in 1943 but, due to Uncle Sam's prior claim on his time, it was not until 1946 that he appeared in a game for the Pirates.
