In his first full major year, Tot Pressnell compiled a 3.56 earned-run average, a remarkable feat for a freshman pitcher. He came up to the Brooklyn Dodgers from Milwaukee, where he was a baseball hero. In 1937 the fans of Milwaukee gave him a "Pressnell Night" and presented Tot with a new automobile. During that year, Pressnell turned in 18 victories for the Brewers and on the strength of that record was purchased by the Dodgers. He has been very useful to Brooklyn both as a starting pitcher and a relief hurler, turning in 11 victories against 14 defeats for the Dodgers last year.
MY BIGGEST THRILL IN BASEBALL by Russ Kemmerer. It happened in 1954, my rookie year, in Yankee Stadium. It was "Old Timer's Day." As I sat in the dugout watching each great ball player of the past being introduced, I had a feeling of great pride; for these were the players I had heard about ever since I was old enough to play ball. I shook hands with each one, and even though I pitched a 1 hit shutout over Baltimore to win 4-0 in my first big league start, I still feel that being on the same field with these great players of the past is my biggest thrill.
