Early is the most aptly named pitcher in the history of baseball. When he takes the mound he's a good bet to win, whether early or late. He had a 17-12 record for the 1953 Indians, and he was 23-12 the preceding year. Early came to the Indians in December, 1948, after 7 full seasons with the Washington Senators. He's a good man to have on your side when a team needs that one "big" win, because Early can see no excuse for losing. He's part Indian.
