Moved from outfield to first base when the 1951 Giants needed help there. Did excellent job. Hit important double in the Giants' 9th-inning rally in final playoff game, driving in their second run. Batted .282 in 153 games for the season. Had 12 homers, 7 triples, 27 doubles.



He's a handy man to have on a ball club. When he isn't catching he is often used to pinch hit for another player. Has been in the big league 12 years. Caught two years for the Athletics, went to the minors for a year and led the American Association in batting. Cleveland paid $30,000 for him in 1922 and he's been with that club ever since. Last year batted .246 in 82 games. Bats left-handed. Is five feet, nine and one-half inches tall and weighs 165 pounds. Born in Little Rock, Ark., July 9, 1898.
