Wally Moses, one of the mainstays of the Athletics, started playing baseball with the Augusta Club in 1931. After four years of minor-league baseball, he joined the A's in 1935 and every year has hit better than .300, his best average being .345 in 1936. For two successive years he collected over 200 hits, 202 in 1936 and 208 in 1937. For four years of major-league baseball his record shows 703 hits, 236 runs batted in, 527 games for a batting average of .324.
After winning eight out of nine ballgames for The Phillies Triple-A ballclub in 1966, it seemed that Joe was about to embark on a long, successful career for Philadelphia. The Yankees made an offer for Joe that The Phils couldn't turn down and the righthander is now proudly wearing pin-stripes. Joe was brought up from Syracuse when Mgr. Houk's pitching corps was hurting.
"Frenchie" Bordagaray is one of the fastest base runners in the National League. He came up with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1936 after a brief trial with the Chicago White Sox in 1934. In the winter of '36 he was traded by the Brooklyn Dodgers to the St. Louis Cardinals, and last year was traded to the Cincinnati Reds from the St. Louis Cardinals. While with Brooklyn "Frenchie" had a batting average of .313, and each year has managed to keep close to the .300 mark.
