Lou Chiozza is an all-around athlete who has engaged in boxing, basketball, track, football, and handball, as well as baseball. He retired from the other sports when he signed to play shortstop for the Memphis Club in 1931. Lou was drafted from Memphis by the Phillies at the close of the 1933 season, and alternated between the infield and outfield for them until the close of the 1936 season. On December 8, 1936, he was sold to the New York Giants, for George Scharein, and cash, and has been used as a utility infielder, and outfielder by the Giants ever since. In five years of major-league baseball, Lou Chiozza has taken part in 576 games, getting 595 hits for an average of .277.



All around utility man with the New York Giants. Can play practically any infield position. Was born in Angleton, Texas, in 1905 and began his professional career with Ardmore, Okla., at the age of 18. Throws right-handed, but bats either way. Five feet, nine and one-half inches tall, 150 pounds. First big league tryout with the Braves in 1929. Sent to the minors the next season. The Giants bought him last winter from Dallas, Tex., where he hit .298 in 149 games, stole 42 bases and starred as a second baseman.
