Speed ball pitcher of the Philadelphia Athletles. Led the pitchers of the league four years in succession. A left hander, 6 feet, 2 1/2 Inches tall, weighing 175 pounds. Athletics paid more than $100,000 for Grove to the Baltimore Club at the close of the 1924 season. With Baltimore, Grove won 108 games in five years, suffered only 36 defeats and secured 1107 strikeouts during that time. Grove was born at Lonaconing, Md., in 1900 and began his professional career with Martinsburg in the Blue Ridge League in 1920. He shifted to Baltimore that year. Last year won 25 games and lost 10, fanning 188 batters.
