MY BIGGEST THRILL IN BASEBALL by Al Kaline. Playing opening day in Detroit I think will always be my greatest thrill in baseball. I know I will always remember playing in front of all those people, and all of them were cheering for our team. We were playing Baltimore, and we won the game 3-0. My childhood hero, incidentally, was Ted Williams, and I think he's the greatest hitter I've ever seen.
In the 1956 World Series, Yogi's booming bat was the Yanks chief offensive weapon. His .360 batting mark for the seven games included 9 hits and 10 runs batted in. In the crucial final game, Yogi blasted 2 homers to wrap up the World Championship for New York. He was voted Most Valuable Player in 1951, 1954 and 1955.
Tommy was acquired from the Indians. Just a year ago, Cleveland gave up Fred Whitfield & George Culver to secure Tommy's services. In '68, he was 3rd on Cleve. with 11 stolen bases.
